Riverwell Dementia Village, Watford
Located in South Hertfordshire, the site lies adjacent to Watford General Hospital in the Vicarage district of West Watford. The proposal involves the introduction of a Dementia care home and community hub to serve as a dementia village. Set to form part of the wider master plan for the Riverwell development.
The following aims will be achieved by the scheme:
- Achieve ‘Excellent’ BREEAM rating.
- Forming strong building lines, with reference to a typical high street in Hertfordshire, orientated towards the River Colne.
- Increase resident physical and mental well-being by encouraging resident interaction through open-plan spaces.

Project Overview.
The scheme aims to provide a townscape from which compassionate care and resident interaction will assist in creating a homely atmosphere that will support the experience of continuation in residents' everyday life. Ensuring residents have recognizable surroundings through strong visual connections on the high street. The proposal will house 70 residents and accommodate 50 in-house carers. Also, the community building will accommodate an additional 100 persons, on top of the 70 residents. There will be 13 beds provided for rest bite and 4 of those will serve as nurse bed allocation should a ‘lockdown’ event occur.- 01 - 12

The BSc (Hons) Architectural Technology course is a professionally-focused gateway to a career in the architecture industry. Students explore how buildings are created, procured, constructed and managed, and develop a practical and imaginative approach to design through a project-based learning experience.
