RE-IMAGINED: city centre

The Diploma project started with the exploration of Nottingham City Centre and the historical development of the city. The aim of this proposal was to create an interior temporary intervention within a building currently out of use, to bring it back to life while the users still feel identified with it.

The initial intention was to adapt a building while creating a sense of synergy within the old and the new structures. The proposal is developed as a fully accessible and functional exhibition that evokes new experiences and reflections. The building is divided into four different zones: front desk along with a shop, a design studio, a café, and an exhibition area. The division between the areas was considered not only to split the spaces but to create a sense of comfort, seclusion and tranquillity while changing from room to room. Entering into a control space, the intention is for users to be able to interact with the art that is being created by local artsists. Various groups of communities gather in this space, which through their artistic experience create a new sense of community.

The proposal has been simplified at its most, to provide smooth forms while using bare materials such as plywood panels to cover the timber frame construction; all this to allow the existing elements such as the ceiling details to stand out. The major exhibition area is made of timber slats where light flows into inside and encloses exhibition area.

MA Interior Architecture and Design

The MA Interior Architecture and Design is a multi-dimensional course which incorporates the understanding of interior, spatial and architectural design alongside an awareness of building structure.

The course is an intensive 53 week in length, and it is divided into three successive terms: Certificate, Diploma and Masters. The DIPLOMA SHOW is the conclusion of Term 2, launched in July 2021. At the end of Term 3 October 2021, the same students present their MASTERS SHOW before entering into industry or further studies.

The course has a very strong studio-based culture which is reflective of professional practice, with a combination of design and skills-based teaching and exploration with a strong focus on the spatial investigation, humancentric and holistic use of space.
